Angie Stone (Mrs. Stone)

Angie’s passion for life is exhibited through her love of dance, which she shares with those she teaches. She first began to exhibit a love of the art at the age of two and over the last decades has being afforded the privilege to share her passion through teaching dance and ballet for kids.
Mrs. Stone is a graduate of the Teacher Training Program at Canada’s National Ballet School and is a Registered Teacher with the Royal Academy of Dance. She is an Honours Graduate from the Department of Dance at Cardinal Carter Academy for the Arts and her experience has provided a strong foundation in many of forms of dance, with training in ballet, modern, jazz, musical theatre, tap and gymnastics. In addition, Mrs Stone has trained as a dancer at L’École Supérieure de Ballet Contemporain de Montréal, The Royal Winnipeg Ballet School and Canada’s National Ballet School. Angie’s life goal is to inspire tomorrow’s young artists to develop confidence, ability and passion for dance.

 

Catherine Kourkounakis (Mrs. K)

Catherine Kourkounakis brings a wealth of theatre and dance experience as well as over 30 years of teaching expertise in the Metro Toronto region. Catherine teaches the Pre-Primary levels and up. Her students over the past years consistently get excellent exam results. Her credits for production and choreography include a 2005 reproduction of Bournonville’s A Folk Tale, Award winning Festival choreography, co-producer/co-choreographer of Cinderella, Don Quixote, Swan Lake and yearly productions of The Nutcracker. In the fall of 2009, she debuted her chamber ballet, Life is a Dream, choreographing this intimate ballet and co-producing it with Belcanto Studios’ musical director, Gordon Brown and talented singers and dancers from the Toronto area. Catherine hopes to continue to work with Prima Dance Academy in the Brooklin and north Whitby/Durham area where she can establish a Youth Dance Ensemble that will perform yearly ballet and dance productions. Catherine is the Artistic Director of Prima Dance Ensemble and has begun creating a youth ensemble for Prima Dance Academy students to develop their dancing and performing talents. Her additional areas of expertise include Honours Associate teaching qualifications in National dance earned at the National Ballet School of Canada. Catherine has also worked with two other dance schools to create and develop the dance curriculum for ages 3- 6 years old and has mentored many junior teachers. In addition, she is currently on contract with the Royal Academy of Dance as approved mentor for student teachers in the RAD’s Certificate of Ballet Teaching Studies program.

 

Stephanie Landry (Ms. Stephanie)
Sr Ballet Mistress

Stephanie Landry, native of Montreal, Quebec, moved to Toronto Ontario at the early age of ten to pursue her classical training at the National Ballet School. She then joined The National Ballet of Canada where she enjoyed a 15-year dance career. As well as performing in Toronto with the regular seasons, she traveled annually to eastern and western Canada, United States, Mexico and frequently to Europe. The Company’s rich repertoire offered Stephanie a wide variety of roles, from corps de ballet to soloist, as well as to Principal character works: to name a few, Les Sylphides, Giselle, Swan Lake, Sleeping Beauty, La Bayadere, Onegin, Coppelia and especially the Balanchine Ballets. When she retired as Principal Dancer with Canada’s National Ballet Company in 1991, Stephanie began teaching and brought to the training, the added skill of conditioning and injury-prevention technique called Pilates. She has given countless dance workshops, has successfully brought students to professional competitive performances, and has adjudicated herself in Ontario and Western Canada. Stephanie looks forward to sharing her years of experiences and knowledge with up and coming students.

 

Tracy Smith (Ms Smith)
Jazz, Tap, Musical Theatre, Contemporary, Ballet

Tracy started dancing at the age of two in her hometown of Brighton in the UK.  Her love for dance and performance grew quickly whilst studying at the Jacqueline Storey Theatre School and performing in musicals such as Annie (Molly and Duffy), The Sound Of Music (Gretl), The King And I (Siamese Twin) and Wind In The Willows (Portly Otter). She studied all styles of dance, including Contemporary, Jazz, ISTD National and Greek, and was a finalist in many award competitions. At the age of 14, she was ranked one of the Top 7 tappers in the UK.  Tracy is a graduate of the highly regarded 3-year Dance Diploma Course at Laine Theatre Arts, where she attained Advanced Levels with Honours in ISTD Ballet, Tap and Modern. While at Laine, she also studied Solo Seal RAD and earned her ISTD Associate with Distinction in Ballet, Tap and Modern. Tracy’s love for teaching emerged during her time at Laine while working as a teacher’s assistant for children’s classes. Tracy went on to work for Carnival Cruise Lines as a performer, featured soloist, adage and magician’s assistant and kept her love for teaching alive in the role of Dance Captain. Upon her return from ships, she joined Toronto’s “The Dance Company” as a senior dancer and performed at many trade shows, award ceremonies and private functions. She is now very excited to be back teaching and hopes to pass on her love for dance to the next generation.

Kalie Hunter (2014)

Kalie is originally from Victoria, BC and has been dancing since an early age. Most recently Kalie played the role of Tantomile in the Toronto production of CATS at the Panasonic Theatre. She also had the opportunity to understudy the roles of Victoria, Bombalurina and Demeter. Other theatre credits include: Loretta/ensemble in White Christmas (Manitoba Theatre Centre,) Ensemble in Dirty Rotten Scoundrals (Theatre Calgary,) Ensemble in Beauty and The Beast (Citadel Theatre/Theatre Calgary,) and also the re-mount of Beauty and the Beast two years later (Citadel Theatre.) Kalie has worked as a featured dancer/aerial acrobat artist onboard Silverseas cruise lines (Jean Anne Ryan Productions;) and was fortunate enough to visit a large part of the world. As a dancer Kalie has also worked for Ballet Espressivo (Don Quixote and Forbidden Fruit/Rotten Apples,) La Caravan Dance Theatre (The Corridor,) Fayez1 Productions (Grief: Another Common Bond,) Calaway Park (Summer Jam, Jack and Jill Kids Club, Spooktacular Party,) as well as many industrials, commercials and corporate events. Film/TV credits include: Cowboy For Christmas (Hallmark,) Bang Bang Baby, The Strain (F/X,) The Ron James Show (CBC,) Nikita (C/W/Warner Bros,) Bomb Girls (Global,) and Tiny Dancer (White Pine Studios, BRAVO.) Kalie has her BA in Dance from The School of Alberta Ballet and The University of Calgary. Upon graduation she had the amazing opportunity of travelling with 16 other Canadian dancers and W&M Physical Theatre to Poland,where they performed and took part in the Bytom festival.  Kalie has been on faculty at Metro Movement in Toronto for the past five years and loves teaching people who are as passionate about dance as she is!

 

Jennifer Denys (2014) Workshop on Turnout

Jen has been a physiotherapist since 2003. She holds a Master of Science from McMaster University and a Bachelor of Human Kinetics from Trinity Western University in British Columbia, along with several awards for academic achievement and citizenship. She also graduated from McMaster’s Contemporary Acupuncture program in 2008 and did her advanced training in 2012. Along with her work at ellephysio, in Oakville, Jen continues to treat the most elite dancers in the country at Canada’s National Ballet School. Since 2005, she has been working with the artistic staff, not only to treat injury, but also to prevent injury and optimize the dancers’ potential. This environment of excellence has given Jen an even richer understanding of the human body and she has been longing to bring that expertise to the wider community – to anyone looking for greater physical well-being. Jen loves discovering the root of the problem and helping people make the progress that has otherwise felt elusive. She is especially gifted at helping clients understand how they contribute to their own healing and giving them the confidence to take helpful actions on their own.

 

Gina Kim (2013)
Born in Edmonton Alberta, Gina Kim moved to Ontario and began her dance training under the watchful eyes of The Port Colborne Dance Academy, now formally known as Dance Expressions. Ms. Kim has diverse training in tap, jazz, ballet, pointe, lyrical, modern, musical theatre, hip-hop, National dance and Korean traditional folk dance. Ms. Kim received Honors in numerous C.D.T.A tap and jazz exams, Advanced Cecchetti ballet exams, Advanced RAD ballet exams and Advanced I.S.T.D National dance exams.
Ms. Kim is a certified adjudicator in association with I.A.D.A. Greater accomplished credentials include: Teaching Diploma and certificate from Canada’s National Ballet School, Associates in The Cecchetti Society of Canada, Royal Academy of Dance, Imperial Society of Teachers of Dancing, Dance Masters of America and Canadian Dance Teachers Association.
Ms. Kim has attended master classes and workshops in Toronto, New York, Los Angeles, Chicago, Japan, Korea and Winnipeg. Her performance experience includes Snow White and the Seven Dwarfs with Quinte Ballet School, The Nutcracker and Les Syphides with The National Ballet School, The Beach Boys, Guys N’ Dolls, Bye-Bye Birdie, Grease, Chicago and Westside Story. After graduating with her BFA Honors in Dance from York University, Ms. Kim furthered her education at Canada’s National Ballet School, and joined the teaching staff in the Associates Program in 2006.
